Moving can be a very strenuous activity, especially if it involves larger, heavier things. As a local moving company, Isaac’s Moving and Storage, has helped multiple families with their short and long distance moves. These are a few moving tips which you can follow for a safe move without being injured:
- Do Not Over Pack
One of the biggest mistakes we all make, especially without thinking about it, is packing too much into one box. Each box can only hold a certain weight; over packing can damage your goods, break the box and seriously injure your back. So, to avoid any risk, be sure to take into consideration the number of things you pack into one box.
- Dress Comfortably
Although what you wear may not really seem like a safety hazard, we often underestimate the manner in which our clothes may affect our movement. When moving objects in and out of your house, be sure to not only dress comfortably but also make sure that you are wearing comfortable shoes with enough grip and that there are no loose pieces of fabric hanging around that could catch onto something and cause you to fall.
- Sharp Objects
Wrapping sharp objects in bubble wrap or packing paper is crucial when packing. Objects such as kitchen knives and garden tools can easily cut somebody when packing and unpacking. Sometimes, it can even pierce your packed boxes. To avoid any unwanted accidents, be sure to wrap all sharp objects in wrapping, and tighten the object with elastic bands, to stop it from unraveling.
- Stay Hydrated, Fed And Protected
Dehydration is one of the biggest risks when moving. A lot of the time, we are so consumed by the thought of packing everything in time that we forget to stop, take a break, and drink some water. Always ensure that you have eaten a well-balanced meal before your moving day, and drink at least half a gallon of water throughout the day. Do not forget to take into account the weather, so be sure that you are wearing enough sunscreen if it is sunny outside.
- Do Not Try Lift More Than You Think You Can
Typically, on moving days, we often over-estimate our strength and try lifting more than we can carry. This places a huge strain on our bodies and often leaves us with nasty back pains, or worse, back injuries. To avoid being injured, use a dolly when transporting heavy items, or contact your local moving company to assist you with your move.
At the end of the day, you should always listen to your body and prioritize your health. To avoid any injuries, contact Isaac’s Moving and Storage – we will look after you and your belongings.
